NHASP Winter Meeting will consist of two presentations this year. The morning session is: Ethics in the Digital Age: Review of NASP Ethical Codes of Conduct. After Lunch, we will have a presentation called: From DSM-IV TR to DSM-5: An overview of changes for School Professionals.

3:30– 5:00: School Psychology Internship Meet-And-Greet - Social hour in Fratello's Bar. An opportunity for potential site supervisors to meet Program Directors, Faculty, current and former students from local programs. Learn about the training programs in NH, discuss the possibility of creating an internship in your district, and meet prospective interns. All are welcome to attend. (Cash Bar)

 

Ethics in the Digital Age

Review of NASP Ethical Codes of Conduct

This presentation will offer an overview of the 2010 NASP Principles for Professional Ethics and discuss recent ethical dilemmas. It will review the decision making process utilized by the NASP Ethics Committee and engage participants in case reviews. The challenges and opportunities presented with emerging technologies will also be discussed.

 

Presentation Objectives:

Þ Participants will learn the updated NASP Principles for Professional Ethics and the procedures for addressing ethical concerns.

Þ Participants will engage in the decision making process for addressing ethical dilemmas.

Þ Participants will discuss new ethical challenges presented with emerging technologies.

Presenter:

Dr. Melissa Pearrow is an Associate Professor and Director of the School Psychology PhD program at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She began her career as a special educator and school psychologist in urban schools, and she completed training in inpatient, outpatient, and community mental health settings. Her research focuses on youth empowerment and school-based mental health services. She serves on the National Association of School Psychologists Ethics Committee and is the former President of the Massachusetts School Psychologists Association.

Presenter:

Erik Maki presently holds a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Massachusetts.  He has worked as a clinician in direct care environments such as residential, group home, and day treatment facilities for children and adolescents.  For the past five years, Erik has been employed as a Care Manager for the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership.  Erik is also a doctoral student in the School Psychology program at UMass Boston where he teaches a graduate level Abnormal Psychology course.  His current research focuses on the collaboration between school-based and community-based mental health providers.
