NHASP Fall Conference 2024Connection and Belonging:Understanding and Addressing Invisible Wounds of TraumaMonday, OCTOBER 28th, 20248:00am - 3:30pmWorkshop DescriptionThis workshop will focus on introducing participants to the various wounds related to historical trauma. In this workshop, we ask educators (school psychologists, teachers, administrators, etc.) to contextualize the experiences of people who have been marginalized within a historical-socio-political framework and to work towards understanding the signs of these wounds. 6.0 CE credits are available for this event!NHASP is a NASP-approved provider of CPD hours and Certificates of Attendance will be accepted toward NCSP. A total of 4.0 CE credits will be awarded for this event. NH Licensed Psychologists should note that NASP is an approved CE provider and these credits count towards licensure renewal requirements. Target AudienceThis workshop is appropriate for School Psychologists, Psychologists, School Social Workers, School Counselors, Special Education Teachers and Administrators, Regular Education Teachers, and Speech Pathologists. The workshop is available to current NHASP members at a special reduced rate as a membership benefit. Additionally, members of other Northeast Regional state associations can attend at the NH member rate as part of our regional collaboration. Keynote PresenterDr. Silas Otniel Rodrigues Pinto (Mestre Tigri) is currently the Deputy Chief of People & Culture - Equity, Inclusion and Talent for the City of Providence – and is serving as the inaugural director of the Department for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, for which he remains the interim director while supporting directorship of the department of Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development. Prior to working for the City of Providence, he worked as a full-time faculty at Tufts University’s Department of Education, where he directed the School Psychology Graduate Program and Co-Directed the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Leadership Program for 12 years. He continues in the teaching capacity as Part-time Professor of the Practice for Tufts University and Lab Faculty at College Unbound. Dr. Pinto teaches and works in the areas of social justice, diversity & inclusion, education law, immigrant populations & bridging communication, biological bases of learning & behavior, methods of research, school-based consultation, and social-emotional learning initiatives. Beyond his government and academic contributions, Dr. Pinto is often known as "Mestre Tigri," the founder of the only Capoeira Martial Arts group in Rhode Island, and director at New Wave Martial Arts & Fitness, where he has focused on wellness, addressing the impacts of intergenerational trauma, colonization and language education for over 25 years.

Emma Sevigny Children's Behavioral Health Policy CoordinatorEmma serves as the Children's Behavioral Health Policy Coordinator for New Futures. She works to support and strengthen a comprehensive and integrated System of Care for children and youth. Emma frequently helped clients navigate social services outside of the court system, and she worked to simplify this complex system for families in need. Emma also serves on the board of the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, | Gilles Bissonette, Legal Director ACLU New HampshireinatorSince 2013, Gilles Bissonnette has been the Legal Director at the ACLU of New Hampshire, where he leads a team of four civil rights lawyers. He has litigated cases on racial justice, the criminalization of poverty, voting, police and government accountability, public records, the First Amendment, classroom censorship, immigrants’ rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and criminal justice issues. Gilles has testified before the New Hampshire legislature on hundreds of bills impacting civil liberties. He has authored approximately 30 op-eds and other publications discussing civil liberties and civil rights issues. |
