Executive functions contribute demonstrably to children’s success in the academic, social, emotional and behavioral domains, as well as to a wide range of clinical conditions. Research over the past decade has grown exponentially, defining typical executive function development, profiles in a wide range of conditions, associations with other domains of function, and relationships with brain structure and function.

In the morning presentation, Dr. Isquith will discuss contributions of both rating scale and performance measures to assessment of executive functioning, including profiles in an array of clinical populations, associations with relevant outcomes and biological markers, and relationships with performance-based measures.
In the afternoon, Dr. Dawson will join Dr. Isquith to focus on how this data informs development of interventions, and approaches to assessing intervention outcome. Dr. Dawson will provide an overview of coaching, highlighting how it is a vehicle for linking assessment to intervention as well as a proven strategy for improving executive skills in struggling students.
The target audience for this intermediate to advanced workshop is school psychologists, psychologists, and other education and mental health professionals looking for a working model of executive functions, knowledge of assessment approaches for evaluating executive functions, and evidence for intervention approaches to problems with executive functions in students.
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Presenter
Peter K. Isquith, Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist with specialty in developmental neuropsychology. Dr. Isquith is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
Dr. Isquith’s primary area of research is the development and disorders of self regulation across the lifespan and he is author of numerous works on the topic and co-author of the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) family of instruments, the Tasks of Executive Control (TEC) and the Multimodal Assessment of Cognition and Symptoms (MACS) for children.

Peg Dawson, Ed.D. is a psychologist at the Center for Learning and Attention Disorders in Portsmouth, NH, where she specializes in the assessment of children and adults with learning and attention disorders.
She presents nationally and internationally on executive skills. Along with her colleague, Dr. Richard Guare, she has authored books on executive skills for both parents and professionals.
